Buying Kayla Itsines Guide? STOP! Save your money!
Summer’s just around the corner and you know what that means—fun in the sun at the pool, the beach, and the lake. It also means something else—bathing suit season. That dreaded time when you take off your winter clothes and realize what holiday eating has done to your body.
Many people think that you have to buy an expensive gym membership to get back into shape for bikini season, but that’s not true. There are a variety of at-home workout products that are available for purchase that are cheaper than a gym membership, just as effective, and even more convenient.

My Problem with Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide
To sum it up in one word: EXPENSE.
I became familiar with Kayla Itsines workouts after reading some articles about her and finding her workouts on Instagram. I was suitably impressed, and definitely envious of her fantastic bikini body. I was all ready to buy her product until I took a closer look at what that actually meant for my wallet.
First, you’re not just buying one product. You’re buying several:

That’s over $200 for two months of workout guides. I could hire a personal trainer for that. But that’s not all.
Second, you’re required to purchase additional gym equipment, like dumbbell weights, medicine ball, optional mat, bosu ball, jump rope, two steps…all of which equals MORE MONEY.
Third, once I hypothetically bought all of this equipment, it needs a home. I don’t have the storage space to keep a small home gym inside my house.
Fourth, reviews of the H.E.L.P. Nutrition Guide were not exactly stellar. Common complaints were that the food was too expensive, that it wasn’t included in the workout package (seems like she’s just milking her customers for money at this point), and that the diet she prescribed caused terrible cravings. PLUS, there’s a lot of debate over whether or not the low-calorie diet that she recommends is even healthy for you.
So to recap, that’s over $200 dollars for two months of workout guides, a dubious nutrition guide, and a recipe book PLUS whatever you spend on the extra equipment. And to be clear, all of her material is digital download. You’re not even buying tangible products.
So in the end, I ended up not purchasing the product offered by Kayla Itsines because of all of the extra costs and the not-so-great reviews (which didn’t really inspire much confidence). But I still wanted that bikini body, so I checked out the other name that kept coming up in my research—Jen Furrugia’s Bikini Body Workouts—and decided to buy her product instead.
Jen Ferrugia’s Bikini Body Workouts: The Cheaper, Better Alternative
Looking at the comparison table, can you start to understand WHY I chose Jen Ferrugia’s workouts over Kayla Itsines workout? Seriously, check out that price difference. And that’s not including the gym equipment that you have to buy. Oh, and by the way, with Jen Ferrugia’s Bikini Body Workouts, you don’t have to buy as much extra exercise tools—more savings!
And of course, you can say, “But Julie, you have to consider quality; a superior product will almost always cost more than their inferior counterpart!” Yeah, that’s often true in the real world. But when it comes to downloadables, the individual sets the price at whatever they want; it’s not dictated by the market as much as real world goods. And people are going to set the price at whatever amount they think customers will pay.
As for the quality of the two products, when I looked at customer reviews, Ferrugia’s workouts had accumulated much more praise and less criticism than that of Itsines. So you can think what you want, but, for me, Jen Ferrugia’s Bikini Body Workouts were a much better buy.

What I Liked
There’s so much that I liked about Jen Ferrugia’s Bikini Body Workouts! But here are some of the highlights for me:

I’m really uncoordinated, so I always feel incredibly lost when doing any kind of exercise routine (it’s why I don’t attend group classes at the gym). I’m never sure if I’m getting my body positioned correctly or performing the exercises the way they should be done. But Jen Ferrugia’s Bikini Body Workouts laid out everything step-by-step and between the videos and the e-book, there was no way for me to screw up this time.

I have never had a butt. Ever. No one in my family has one. We are a flat-butted family. If I don’t have on a belt, my pants slip down because there’s nothing there to hold them up.
